AIR-DS Lung
A convenient and simple test to support lung cancer detection.
AIR-DS Lung Test is a cheek swab intended to identify people with lung cancer so they can get the care they need.
AIR-DS is UKCA marked for use in the UK. In the US, it will be offered as part of a laboratory developed test by a CLIA certified laboratory. It is not cleared or approved by the FDA.
In Plain Terms
What is it
A non-invasive cheek-swab test for lung cancer detection.
What it is designed to do
Triaging clinical support tool to detect those patients found to be high risk for lung cancer and would benefit from further clinical evaluation.
What it does not do
AIR-DS Lung Test is not a single standalone diagnostic for lung cancer.
How it works
Purposefully designed.

AIR-DS Lung Test
A simple cheek swab.
— Intended for use within existing clinical workflows and sites of care
— Does not require blood
— Does not require temperature-controlled specimen handling
— Does not require specialized collection equipment
01
Cheek swab
A cheek-swab sample is collected.
02
Laboratory analysis
The sample is prepared using a standardized laboratory workflow.
03
Infrared spectroscopy
Infrared spectroscopy measures the sample’s spectral characteristics.
04
Analytical platform
Analytical technology processes the spectral information to support a detection result.
05
Results
Provides prediction of risk of targeted cancer.
Designed around implementation
Five things an early detection test has to be.
The elements that inspired the shaping of AIR-DS Lung Test.
Accurate
Performance sufficient to be clinically and meaningfully useful.
Affordable
A price point allowing widespread use.
Accessible
Reachable without travel or specialist facilities.
Available
Deliverable without depending on scarce equipment, capacity or staffing constraints.
Accommodating
Able to fit into the clinical schedules and circumstances of everyday life.
Clinical development
Where the work stands.
AIR-DS is supported by prospective clinical evidence in over 500 patients. We are running RADICAL-REACT, a multi-site UK clinical performance evaluation study. AIR-DS is UKCA marked for use in the UK. In the US, it will be offered as part of a laboratory developed test by a CLIA certified laboratory. It is not cleared or approved by the FDA.
Detailed mechanisms, performance data and validation results are held for peer-reviewed publication and are not disclosed here. Performance figures, model outputs and forward-looking claims are not published on this site.

AIR-DS is a UKCA marked in vitro diagnostic medical device, developed in accordance with IEC 62304 and under an ISO 13485 certified quality management system. In the US, a CLIA certified laboratory will offer a laboratory developed test (LDT) with AIR-DS Lung Test. It has not been cleared or approved by the FDA.
