I never smoked.

Screening is not about expecting bad news. It is about reducing uncertainty, and giving you and your clinician more options while there are more options to have.

Ken Krings

Lung cancer patient

Ken Krings had always been athletic. When he developed what felt like his usual allergy cough, lung cancer was not what he expected. But something felt different.

Ken noticed an unusual sensation in his upper back when he coughed. Years working in healthcare had given him enough awareness not to dismiss it. What followed ultimately led to a Stage IV lung cancer diagnosis.

Ken had something many patients do not: a network that helped him reach specialist care quickly, and the confidence to keep advocating for himself when he felt he needed to move faster.

His experience has shaped how he thinks about early detection today.

“This cancer can affect anyone like me as a non-smoker. Be proactive.”

Earlier detection matters.

But so does whether people recognise the need to act, can access the right pathway, and know how to navigate what comes next.

This is Ken’s.

Ken has also shared his experience in his own words on LinkedIn.
